A 35-year-old man was hospitalized after being ejected from his motorcycle during a crash involving a pickup truck Saturday evening in Spring Grove, according to police.

The Spring Grove Police Department and Spring Grove Fire Department responded around 7:45 p.m. on April 12 to the intersection of Wilmot Road and Main Street for reports of a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

Police Chief Michael Niedzwiecki said officers arrived to find a motorcycle rider down in the roadway following the collision.

Preliminary findings indicate the motorcycle, operated by a man from Sycamore, was traveling northbound on Wilmot Road when it struck a Ford F-150 that was also heading northbound and turning right onto eastbound Main Street.

Authorities said the motorcycle’s front end hit the rear driver-side bumper of the truck. After impact, the motorcycle slid across the intersection and came to rest near the northwest corner.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in the intersection while the bike continued sliding.

The driver of the pickup, a 48-year-old resident of Wonder Lake, told investigators they were turning on a green light when the motorcycle struck the vehicle from behind.

Police said the motorcyclist was conscious and speaking with first responders at the scene but was not wearing a helmet.

He was transported by ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

The pickup driver was not injured.

No citations have been issued at this time as the crash remains under investigation by the Spring Grove Police Department. The intersection was temporarily partially closed while crews cleared the scene.
