Illinois State Representative Rita Mayfield (60th District) announced that several pieces of legislation she sponsored have successfully passed out of the Illinois House, addressing issues ranging from consumer transparency to public safety and healthcare access.

Among the measures advancing is HB 4235, which ensures committed persons and their correspondents are not charged additional fees for mail services. HB 4247 would expand access to asthma medication for students participating in athletic events, helping improve emergency preparedness during school activities.

Mayfield also advanced HB 4277, allowing individuals with felony convictions older than 10 years to become notaries, creating additional pathways for rehabilitation and employment opportunities.

Additional legislation includes HB 5449, which increases transparency for homeowners’ and condominium associations by requiring them to maintain websites containing board agendas and important public information.

Two other bills, HB 5206 and HB 5285, focus on strengthening the Illinois Emergency Management Agency by updating procedures and ensuring resources are allocated properly during emergencies.

Mayfield said the package of legislation reflects ongoing efforts to improve fairness, accountability, and public services across Illinois. The bills will now move to the next stage of the legislative process for further consideration.
