Nicki Minaj says she believes many celebrities privately agree with her political views but are too afraid of backlash to publicly express them.
In a new interview with TIME, the rapper said she hopes her increasingly outspoken political stance encourages others in the entertainment industry to stop staying silent out of fear.
“Many celebrities feel the way I do but they don’t say it,” Minaj said. “Sometimes you just need one brave person to get the brunt of the impact.”
The rapper went on to describe herself as a possible “catalyst” for change within the entertainment industry, suggesting that public pressure and fear of losing opportunities keep many artists from speaking honestly about politics.

“I think I am the catalyst for that change,” she said. “Hopefully when they see me and hear me speak and feel my energy, that will make them say, ‘You know what: Who am I afraid of?’”
Minaj’s comments come amid her growing public support for President Donald Trump and conservative political figures. In the TIME interview, she explained that she previously kept her views private because she felt the music industry overwhelmingly leaned Democratic and feared fans would turn against her.
Her political evolution has sparked intense debate online, with some fans praising her willingness to speak freely while others criticize her alignment with Trump-era politics. Over the past several months, Minaj has increasingly positioned herself as someone challenging what she sees as ideological pressure inside entertainment culture.
The conversation also reflects a broader shift happening across social media and celebrity culture, where public figures are becoming more vocal — and more polarizing — about political identity. Researchers have noted that celebrity influence and online personalities now play a major role in shaping political conversations, particularly among younger audiences.
