A conversation that began as a provocative morning show topic quickly turned into one of the most emotionally honest discussions Pulse Radio 96.1 has hosted in recent memory.

During a recent episode of Set The Tone, host Christión asked listeners a simple but emotionally loaded question:

“Where Have All The Good Girls Gone?!”

The discussion immediately resonated with listeners throughout North Chicago, Waukegan, Zion, Gurnee, and surrounding communities across Lake County, with text messages pouring into the station throughout the morning.

However, the conversation quickly evolved beyond dating complaints and social media discourse. Instead, listeners began opening up about emotional exhaustion, relationship burnout, financial stress, vulnerability, and the growing difficulty many people face when trying to build healthy relationships in modern culture.

Christión clarified early in the broadcast that the topic was not intended to criticize Black women, but rather examine the emotional state of relationships within the Black community overall.

“I don’t think healthy people disappeared,” Christión said during the segment. “I think a lot of people became tired… and careful.”

Listeners shared deeply personal perspectives throughout the show.

One listener from Waukegan texted the station saying:

“I don’t think good women disappeared. I think a lot of women stopped being soft after getting hurt repeatedly.”

Another listener from North Chicago wrote:

“A lot of men are emotionally tired too. Some of us feel like we’re only loved when we’re useful.”

The episode also explored how social media has reshaped expectations surrounding relationships, with many listeners agreeing that modern dating culture often prioritizes emotional detachment, image, and self-protection over vulnerability and genuine connection.

A listener from Gurnee summarized the frustration many felt:

“Everybody thinks somebody better is one scroll away.”

Throughout the episode, Christión spoke candidly about the emotional toll unhealthy relationships can take on individuals, especially when one person feels responsible for carrying the emotional, mental, or financial weight of the relationship alone.

The discussion touched on themes that many listeners found relatable:

  • emotional burnout
  • fear of vulnerability
  • transactional relationships
  • emotional unavailability
  • loneliness within relationships
  • difficulty trusting people after repeated disappointment

Despite the heavy subject matter, the conversation ultimately landed on a hopeful note.

Rather than concluding that “good girls” or “good men” no longer exist, the show suggested that many people are simply navigating relationships while emotionally overwhelmed, guarded, and exhausted from past experiences.

“People still want honesty. They still want consistency. They still want emotional safety,” Christión said near the end of the show. “The problem is a lot of people no longer know how to reach those places without fear getting in the way first.”

The episode quickly became one of the station’s most discussed morning segments online, with listeners continuing the conversation across social media long after the broadcast ended.

Set The Tone airs exclusively on Pulse Radio 96.1.
