WINTER PARK, Fla. — A three-year-old Black soccer player whose extraordinary skills sparked controversy during a youth game in Florida is now attracting national attention and opportunities from prominent figures in professional sports.

Nevada Neymar Pierre, a young soccer sensation from the Orlando area, became the center of a viral controversy after police were called to a youth soccer game at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Winter Park on October 24.

Despite being one of the youngest children participating, Nevada had reportedly scored more than 40 goals in five games, demonstrating remarkable ball control and an ability to compete against children as old as five.

According to his parents, the trouble began when other children struggled to take possession of the ball from Nevada. His family alleges that league officials attempted to restrict his participation because of his exceptional abilities.

However, representatives of the recreational soccer program offered a different account, claiming the young player had been pushing other children and that officials were attempting to maintain fair playing time.

The disagreement escalated when a league official contacted police, reporting a dispute involving Nevada’s parents.

Officers responded to the scene but determined that the situation was a civil matter. No arrests were made, and the family ultimately left the park.

Nevada’s mother, Martasia Griffin, has publicly disputed the allegations against her son, sharing footage of his games and questioning why a child displaying exceptional talent would be prevented from participating.

The incident has since generated widespread discussion on social media, with many questioning how youth sports organizations should accommodate unusually talented children while maintaining an inclusive environment.

The controversy has also prompted conversations about racial bias and the treatment of young Black athletes, although no official determination of racial discrimination has been made.

Professional Soccer Figures Step Forward

As Nevada’s story spread, former United States men’s national soccer team player Eddie Johnson offered to help develop the young athlete’s abilities through his soccer academy in the Orlando area.

Additional reports indicate that Jay-Z’s Roc Nation organization has expressed interest in providing Nevada with an international soccer development opportunity in Spain.

Meanwhile, social media reports claim Major League Soccer expansion club San Diego FC has contacted Nevada’s family regarding a possible scholarship and academy opportunity.

However, the reported San Diego FC scholarship has not been independently confirmed by the club or Nevada’s family.

The organization operates a youth development program through its Right to Dream Academy, although its established academy structure generally serves children considerably older than Nevada.

Youth Soccer Organization Responds

i9 Sports, the organization associated with the recreational league, has acknowledged the controversy and indicated that it is reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The organization emphasizes equal participation, sportsmanship, and inclusion as central principles of its youth programs.

Nevada’s parents, however, maintain that their son’s abilities should be celebrated rather than treated as a problem.

What began as a disagreement at a local soccer game has now introduced the three-year-old to a national audience, with supporters hoping his remarkable talent will lead to meaningful opportunities as he grows.

For Nevada Pierre, a young boy who simply loves playing soccer, the attention could mark the beginning of an extraordinary athletic journey.
