HOUSTON, Texas — Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland are giving back to the city that helped shape their careers, joining family members and community leaders to celebrate the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House, an $8.4 million housing development designed to provide permanent homes for people experiencing homelessness.

The Grammy Award-winning singers returned to their hometown of Houston alongside Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, and daughters Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the completion of the project.

Developed in partnership with Bread of Life, Inc. and St. John’s Downtown Church, the Knowles-Rowland House features 31 residential units intended to provide stable, permanent housing for individuals experiencing homelessness in the Houston area.

The development represents a significant investment in addressing housing insecurity while expanding access to essential community services.

For Beyoncé and Rowland, the occasion was particularly meaningful because of their longstanding connections to St. John’s Downtown Church, where both singers spent time during their formative years before achieving international fame as members of Destiny’s Child.

During the ceremony, the two reflected on their upbringing, their connection to the congregation, and the encouragement they received from church leaders throughout their personal and professional journeys.

Beyoncé also recalled being baptized at the church, describing the significance of returning to a place that played an important role in her childhood and spiritual foundation.

The celebration brought together multiple generations of the Knowles family, with Tina Knowles, Blue Ivy, and Rumi participating in the occasion.

Beyond providing permanent residences, the Knowles-Rowland House will connect residents with additional resources through Bread of Life, Inc. and St. John’s Downtown Church. Those services include counseling, treatment programs, and other forms of assistance intended to help individuals achieve greater stability and independence.

Bread of Life has a longstanding history of serving vulnerable populations in Houston, providing food assistance, housing support, and community outreach programs to residents facing economic hardship.

The project also highlights the continued philanthropic efforts of Beyoncé and Rowland, who have supported numerous charitable initiatives throughout their careers, particularly those benefiting underserved communities.

While both artists have achieved international recognition, their involvement in the Knowles-Rowland House reflects an enduring connection to their Houston roots and the organizations that supported them before their rise to fame.

With 31 permanent housing units and access to supportive services, the Knowles-Rowland House is intended to provide more than shelter, offering residents an opportunity to rebuild their lives with greater security, dignity, and access to community resources.
