Daley Announces New Album Strange Nature, Ending Eight-Year Hiatus

R&B singer-songwriter Daley is officially returning with a new album, marking his first full-length project in nearly a decade.

The British soul singer has announced Strange Nature, a 10-track album set for release September 18 through SRG-ILS, distributed by Virgin Music Group/Universal Music Group. Pre-orders for the project open September 4.

The album arrives after an extended period away from releasing new music. Daley returned earlier this year with “Lavender,” his first official release since 2018, before following it with the summer single “Slide.”

Strange Nature reflects the personal and professional changes Daley experienced during his time away, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the death of his father and major shifts within the music industry.

Daley said the album’s title came from accepting the unpredictable nature of life and recognizing that growth and optimism can exist alongside uncertainty, sadness and circumstances outside of a person’s control. That perspective became a central theme throughout the project.

The album also brings together several notable names from R&B, soul and jazz. Marsha Ambrosius appears on “Headlights,” Robert Glasper joins Daley on “Compass,” and trumpeter Keyon Harrold is featured on “Consequences,” which also includes drums from Yussef Dayes.

Among the album’s more personal moments is “Easy,” a breakup record inspired by the deterioration of a relationship and the realization that it was time to let go. “Compass,” meanwhile, centers on finding a way back to someone after emotional or physical distance.

The project arrives as Daley begins another major chapter on the road. His 27-city Strange Nature U.S. Tour launches September 16 in St. Louis, just two days before the album’s release. Chicago dates are scheduled for September 18 and 19 at City Winery Chicago.
