Six Flags Great America Employee Rushed to Hospital in Critical Condition After Cardiac Arrest

GURNEE, Ill. — A Six Flags Great America employee was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest at the Gurnee amusement park Saturday afternoon.

The Gurnee Fire Department responded around 4:13 p.m. Saturday to Six Flags Great America, located at 1 Great America Parkway, following a report of an unconscious person.

Emergency radio traffic indicated the patient was inside a first-aid facility in the dry park and that CPR had already been started.

Gurnee Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Steffens said the employee was in cardiac arrest and was unconscious and not breathing.

The employee, an adult woman believed to be in her late 30s or early 40s, had gone to the park’s first-aid station after reporting that she was not feeling well.

She then suddenly went into cardiac arrest while at the facility.

The medical emergency was witnessed by Six Flags staff paramedics, who immediately began lifesaving measures before firefighters arrived.

Gurnee Fire Department personnel took over those efforts and rushed the woman to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition.

Steffens said the employee regained a pulse by the time she arrived at the hospital.

The department’s last update from the hospital Saturday evening indicated that the woman continued to have a pulse.

No additional information regarding her condition or what may have caused the cardiac arrest was immediately available.

The employee’s identity has not been publicly released.
