A teenage girl was hospitalized early Sunday morning after being injured in a shooting outside a hotel in North Chicago, where multiple gunmen fired dozens of rounds toward a vehicle she was sitting in.

According to the North Chicago Police Department, officers responded around 12:14 a.m. to the Red Carpet Inn, located at 3207 Buckley Road, following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a large gathering of young people had been taking place inside one of the hotel rooms.

Authorities located an 18-year-old woman at the scene who had sustained an injury to her face. The North Chicago Fire Department transported her to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was reported to be in stable condition.

Investigators later determined the victim had been sitting inside a vehicle that was targeted in the shooting. Police say her injuries were caused by glass or debris after a bullet struck near where she was seated.

Officials recovered approximately 60 shell casings at the scene. Preliminary findings indicate multiple suspects were involved, all armed and firing toward the vehicle. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.

Law enforcement agencies from surrounding areas assisted in the response, and the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was called in to support the investigation.

Authorities believe the incident may have been targeted; however, the investigation is ongoing.
