A woman was hospitalized with serious injuries Saturday morning after a two-vehicle collision near Woodstock sent her SUV into a wooded area, leaving her trapped inside the heavily damaged vehicle as emergency crews worked to rescue her.

The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded around 9:33 a.m. to the intersection of Route 47 and Lucas Road following reports of a crash involving two vehicles, with one person unable to escape.

According to Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha, police officers arriving at the scene confirmed that both drivers were conscious, although one remained trapped inside her SUV.

Emergency personnel located the damaged vehicles approximately a quarter mile east of Route 47 along Lucas Road, near a curve where one of the vehicles had left the roadway and entered a wooded area.

Firefighters discovered that a teenage driver had already exited one vehicle, while an adult woman remained trapped inside the other.

Rescue crews carefully worked to free the woman from the wreckage before transferring her to a waiting ambulance. She was transported to an area hospital with injuries described as serious but not believed to be life-threatening.

The teenage driver was evaluated by paramedics at the scene but did not require additional medical treatment or transportation to a hospital.

Photographs released by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District showed extensive damage to both vehicles. A white SUV was positioned among trees off the roadway, while a black SUV with significant front-end damage was visible near the road.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel remained at the scene as crews secured the vehicles, assisted those involved, and cleared debris from the roadway.

Lucas Road was temporarily closed in both directions while emergency responders conducted rescue operations and authorities investigated the collision.

According to police radio communications, the roadway reopened shortly before 10:45 a.m., approximately an hour after emergency crews were initially dispatched.

Authorities have not determined what caused the collision, and investigators have not announced whether speed, road conditions, or other factors contributed to the crash.

No citations or criminal charges had been announced as of Saturday afternoon.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office continues investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
