BREAKING NEWS: HOMICIDE SUSPECT LEADS POLICE ON PURSUIT THROUGH NORTH CHICAGO; CHILD REPORTEDLY DROPPED OFF DURING CHASE

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. — Multiple law enforcement agencies were involved in an active police pursuit Sunday evening involving a white four-door Nissan reportedly wanted in connection with a homicide.

Waukegan and North Chicago police pursued the vehicle through portions of Waukegan and North Chicago. Dispatch traffic tracked the Nissan through several major North Chicago corridors, including Lewis Avenue, 16th and 18th streets, Glen Drive, Broadway, Sheridan Road, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and McKinley Road.

During the pursuit, speeds fluctuated considerably. Dispatch traffic indicated the vehicle reached approximately 62 mph along Lewis Avenue before later slowing to speeds between roughly 28 and 42 mph.

Police requested additional assistance as the pursuit continued. Officers also discussed deploying spike strips as the Nissan traveled southbound on Sheridan Road toward Lake Bluff.

A child was reportedly inside the vehicle during an earlier portion of the incident and was described as being held hostage. The child was reportedly dropped off while the pursuit was still underway.

The circumstances surrounding the homicide have not yet been released. The identities of the homicide victim and person driving the Nissan were not immediately available, nor was information regarding the child’s condition.

It was also not immediately clear whether the pursuit had ended or whether the driver had been taken into custody as of the latest available information.
