WAUKEGAN, Ill. — A new destination for recreation, family fun, and community engagement is rolling into Waukegan.

Waukegan One Love Skate & Family Resource Center (WOLSFRC) has announced that it is preparing to open a brand-new skating rink and family resource center at 1301 S. Lewis Avenue, transforming a previously vacant commercial space into what organizers hope will become a vibrant gathering place for residents of all ages.

The organization recently shared that renovations are underway, calling the project “a new chapter” for the community and teasing that “the wait is almost over.”

According to WOLSFRC, the expanded location represents more than just a new skating rink. Leaders say the facility is designed to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children, teens, families, and friends can gather, build relationships, and create lasting memories.

“The future home of Waukegan One Love Skate & Family Resource Center is coming to life! Bigger space. Bigger dreams. More opportunities for our youth, families, and community.”

The organization also encouraged residents to watch for renovation updates, behind-the-scenes previews, and a future grand opening announcement as construction continues.

The project has also received praise from members of the local business community, who highlighted the positive impact of redeveloping an unused commercial property into a family-focused destination.

One supporter described the project as an investment in Waukegan’s future.

“This is more than just another business opening its doors. It’s another place for families to gather, kids to make memories, friends to connect, and our community to continue growing.”

They added that seeing a vacant commercial space transformed into a place centered on recreation and community is one of the reasons they enjoy working in commercial real estate.

The message also congratulated the new owners and tenants, expressing excitement about seeing their vision come to life.

“Waukegan is lucky to have you, and I know our community is going to be excited for what’s coming.”

Located on the city’s south side along Lewis Avenue, the facility is expected to offer not only roller skating but also programming aimed at supporting local youth and families through community-focused initiatives.

While an official opening date has not yet been announced, organizers say the countdown has begun and encourage residents to stay connected for additional updates as renovations progress.

The arrival of Waukegan One Love Skate & Family Resource Center adds to ongoing efforts to bring new businesses and community spaces to the city, creating opportunities for recreation, neighborhood engagement, and local investment.

Residents can expect more information about the grand opening, special events, and available programs in the coming weeks as the project moves closer to completion.
