PHILADELPHIA — NBA superstar LeBron James is heading to the Philadelphia 76ers, announcing what he says will be the final team decision of his legendary career as he pursues one last NBA championship. The move ends his eight-season tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers and begins what is expected to be his 24th NBA season.

According to ESPN, James has agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract that includes a player option for the second season. The deal represents a substantial pay cut from the nearly $53 million he earned during his final season with the Lakers, underscoring his desire to compete for another title rather than maximize his salary.

In a statement announcing his decision, the 41-year-old emphasized that his motivation was centered solely on winning.

“This is my last decision. I’m not going for money. I’m not going for family. What am I really playing for at this point?”

James also revealed that he seriously considered retirement following the Lakers’ playoff exit before deciding he still had more to accomplish on the court.

The four-time NBA champion joins a Philadelphia roster led by Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and recently acquired Jaylen Brown, instantly elevating the 76ers into the conversation as one of the league’s top championship contenders.

The announcement sent shockwaves across the NBA, with fans, analysts, and players reacting to one of the most significant free-agent moves in recent league history. James’ decision was reportedly revealed through a collaboration with Topps before the 76ers or NBA made an official announcement, catching much of the basketball world by surprise.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, James enters his 24th season as the league’s all-time leading scorer and a four-time NBA champion. If this truly marks the final chapter of his playing career, he will look to close it by bringing another championship to Philadelphia.
