Obama Foundation Invites President Trump to Tour Obama Presidential Center Following Public Criticism

CHICAGO — The Obama Foundation has extended a public invitation to President Donald Trump to visit the newly opened Obama Presidential Center after months of criticism from the president, who has repeatedly called the project “a total disaster” on social media.

The invitation came from Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation and former senior advisor to President Barack Obama. During a media preview of the center, Jarrett responded to Trump’s criticism by encouraging him to see the campus firsthand.

“Judge for yourself,” Jarrett said. “When our visitors come, they will see a spectacular campus. If President Trump would like to come and visit it himself, we would welcome him and give him a tour.”

The exchange follows several posts Trump shared on Truth Social criticizing the Chicago landmark. Earlier this year, he described the project as “a total disaster,” pointing to construction delays. In a later post, he shared an AI-generated image depicting a metal trash can in place of the presidential center, further mocking the development.

Located in Chicago’s South Side, the Obama Presidential Center officially opened to the public on June 19 after construction began in 2021. Developed by the Obama Foundation, the campus includes museum and exhibition spaces, community gathering areas, recreational facilities, and educational programming designed to serve both local residents and visitors from around the world.

The Obama Foundation says the center was created to be “a place for gathering, learning, creativity, and community,” with programming aimed at inspiring civic engagement and leadership across generations.

Trump has long been a vocal critic of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, frequently targeting their policies and public initiatives. His comments about the presidential center are the latest chapter in the ongoing political rivalry between the two administrations.

So far, President Trump has not publicly responded to Jarrett’s invitation. Whether he accepts the offer remains uncertain, but the Obama Foundation says its invitation stands, encouraging the president to experience the campus in person before passing judgment.
