Karamo Brown is speaking candidly about a painful chapter of his life that he kept hidden from the public for years.

The television personality and Queer Eye star recently revealed that a cosmetic procedure he underwent in 2021 led to years of chronic pain, swelling, and emotional distress. Brown shared that after gaining approximately 70 pounds during the COVID-19 pandemic and facing harsh criticism online about his appearance, he decided to undergo buccal fat removal, a cosmetic procedure designed to slim the face by removing fat from the cheeks.

What was intended to be a confidence-boosting procedure quickly turned into a medical nightmare.

According to Brown, complications from the surgery caused scar tissue to develop inside his cheeks, preventing saliva from draining properly. The buildup led to swelling, discomfort, and persistent pain that affected both his personal life and professional career. He said there were times when his cheeks became visibly swollen and his smile felt tight due to the accumulation of scar tissue and saliva.

Despite the ongoing pain, Brown continued filming Queer Eye and hosting his daytime talk show while keeping his condition private. Public speculation about changes to his appearance only added to his struggles, with many assuming he had undergone additional cosmetic procedures. Brown admitted he felt embarrassed and chose not to publicly address the situation at the time.

The reality star eventually sought help from a reconstructive surgeon who removed much of the scar tissue and repaired the damage caused by the original procedure. Brown says the corrective surgery dramatically improved his quality of life and finally brought relief after years of suffering. During the same operation, he also elected to undergo a lower blepharoplasty procedure to reduce under-eye bags.

Now feeling healthier and pain-free, Brown says he is sharing his experience in hopes of helping others who may be dealing with chronic pain, cosmetic surgery complications, or insecurities about their appearance.

His story serves as a reminder that behind celebrity images and social media speculation, many public figures face private battles that often go unseen. Brown hopes his openness encourages others to seek help, ask questions, and avoid suffering in silence.

As conversations surrounding cosmetic procedures continue to evolve, Brown’s experience highlights the importance of understanding both the potential benefits and risks that can accompany elective surgery.
