After weeks of anticipation and fan speculation, Ariana Grande has officially released “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” the lead single from her upcoming eighth studio album, Petal, which is scheduled to arrive on July 31.

The track, released Friday (May 29), marks Grande’s first new solo music since the release of Brighter Days Ahead, the deluxe edition of her acclaimed album Eternal Sunshine, which debuted last year.

Produced by longtime collaborator Max Martin, the song showcases Grande’s signature blend of emotional vulnerability and polished pop production. On the track, she sings: “Hate that I made you love me / I can’t tell you why / But something inside is dancing with fire / Eyes lit like the sky / Turned tears into diamonds / I got good at goodbyes.”

The release offers listeners an early glimpse into the sonic direction of Petal, an album that has quickly become one of the year’s most anticipated pop projects.

Fans can also expect the new single to become a centerpiece of Grande’s upcoming Eternal Sunshine Tour, which is set to launch on June 6.

With “Hate That I Made You Love Me” now available, the countdown to Petal has officially begun.
