Woman Hospitalized After Sports Car Crashes Into Tree and Rolls Over Near McHenry

A woman was hospitalized with injuries after her vehicle struck a tree and overturned, leaving the car totaled and the roadway temporarily closed near McHenry Saturday evening.

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 7 p.m. to the intersection of Chapel Hill Road and Cobblestone Lane in unincorporated McHenry following reports of a crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, emergency crews located a single-vehicle crash involving a sports car that had rolled over, according to Battalion Chief Chris Kozel. An off-duty firefighter who lives nearby was first on scene, assessed the situation, and made contact with the driver.

Authorities said the adult female driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle and did not require extrication. No other vehicles were involved. She was transported to Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry in fair condition with non-life-threatening injuries and was alert and oriented at the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Kozel noted that the incident occurred at dusk and weather conditions were clear at the time. Preliminary information indicates the vehicle was traveling on Chapel Hill Road when it left the roadway, struck a tree, and rolled over before coming to rest partially in the roadway.

Both directions of Chapel Hill Road were closed for approximately one hour as crews responded to the scene. The McHenry Police Department and Johnsburg Police Department assisted the sheriff’s office.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office has not yet provided additional details, including whether any citations have been issued or what factors may have contributed to the crash.
